A little fox with a long history: Our bronze sculpture of the mousing fox
The small sculpture of the mousing fox was created in the early days of our company in winter 2009. During our daily work, as a balance to the daily business, I worked on a fox sculpture on the side, observing them often during hunts, gradually adding more and more detail. Sometimes the piece would sit around for months, and then I would work on it a little more until it was finally finished and found its place on my desk.
The fox brought me joy, but it didn't do justice to its character in modeling clay. So I began the search for a foundry that could cast the small sculpture in bronze. Unfortunately, I discovered that it's easier in Germany to commission a church bell than to have a small sculpture made. The project was put on hold, and every year there would be a small burst of activity where I would research again. Every year, a different address would pop up, and each time, the effort ended with a rejection. Until early 2018, when I finally found a company that agreed to produce the sculpture!
Now it stands before me on the desk: Tense and focused, pointing, as you would only see in a hunting dog. The ears are pricked and fixed on the same point where the nose and eyes are directed. Somewhere under the grass, there was just a faint whimper, and now it's a matter of pinpointing the exact spot to make the perfect pounce! I catch myself time and time again, as I drift away from contemplating work-related problems and suddenly find myself transported to the hunting grounds, with the bronze fox evoking a hunting experience that comes flooding back to memory. A brief but welcome diversion during the often stressful workday!
Each fox is unique because there are always slight variations in the casting process. Not to mention the elaborate post-processing, which makes each piece one of a kind. The figures are individually deburred, finely worked on, and their stance is checked and adjusted. With its size of approximately 15 x 5.5 cm, it is not overly imposing on the desk or shelf, but it is an eye-catching piece that captures the attention of not just hunters. And surely, it is once again a beautiful and quirky gift idea for the hunting partner who seems to have everything.
