We honestly didn’t believe it at first. As devoted fans of medium-sized whisky glasses around 200 ml, larger “tumblers” were something of a taboo for us. Until we were proven wrong and discovered the sensory glass from Sahm.
It may seem like a lot of glass for a small dram of malt whisky, but it guarantees an intense tasting experience: The tulip-shaped glass with a generous total volume of 420 ml is perfect for sampling especially complex whiskies. Its wide, open shape allows the aromas to unfold even more fully than in classic nosing glasses (such as our own, smaller one). The gentle taper at the rim concentrates the expanded aromas right before the nose—ideal for fruity, multi-layered single malts.
In the end, it truly comes down to personal taste which of the two glasses becomes your favorite, but when it comes to capturing the finest nuances of aroma, the voluminous sensory glass is hard to beat.
