But the WALDKAUZ Forend Pad offers even more. In addition to two cartridge loops on one side, it features a zippered pocket on the other side, which contains a small yet highly helpful optics cloth. This ensures that the rifle scope or binoculars can be quickly wiped clean of raindrops or dirt when needed. The pad is crafted from wool felt and leather. To securely attach it to the rifle, the two elastic straps can be opened with a Velcro closure. With this backpack, we have achieved our personal masterpiece, which is why we named it as such. The lid of the backpack, as the main surface area exposed to precipitation, is entirely made of waxed cotton. The four exterior equipment pockets each have a rain flap that can be pulled out from the pocket in wet weather, serving as an awning or canopy over the opening of the respective pocket. Additionally, the bottom section above the loden is also covered with a layer of waxed cotton. This not only protects against moisture from below but also provides additional durability. Sleek, compact, and extremely versatile The basic shape of the "Husarenstück" hunting backpack is slim and tall, similar to a trekking backpack. Pockets and compartments wherever you look The main compartment of the medium-sized loden backpack is very deep, measuring 60 cm. To easily access items at the bottom without having to unpack everything, there is an additional zipper opening in the lower third of the front of the backpack, providing access to this area. The variety of pockets is so extensive that one should carefully consider how to distribute their equipment and decide what needs quick access and what is rarely or never needed. However, there is a well-thought-out place for everything.There are two exterior pockets on each side, one lower and one higher, suitable for accommodating cartridge cases, game retrieval hooks, water bottles, or spotting scopes. Additionally, there are two tension straps on each side that allow for securing longer objects. For example, a folded stalking stick or a lightweight camera tripod can be placed in the lower pocket and secured with the upper strap. A rolled-up rain jacket can be inserted under the straps on the outside. The possibilities for using these straps are diverse. By the way, we also have a few ideas for what else they could be used for.On the front of the backpack, there are two open, slim, and elongated compartments with openings protected by the waxed lid of the main compartment. The lower end of the closure strap terminates in two loops, which can be used to attach additional items, for example, using carabiners. Optimal ergonomics, especially for long distances and heavy loads The back panel is padded with an elaborately quilted filling, making it particularly comfortable to carry even on longer distances. The wide straps are made of nubuck leather and lined with 3mm thick wool felt. The ergonomic shape adapts perfectly to the wearer's shoulder and chest area, and the strap length can be easily adjusted using ladder sliders. On top of the straps, there are leather rolls on both sides, serving as anti-slip protection for the rifle sling.At chest level, there are two pairs of loops at different heights, where a detachable chest strap is attached. This adjustable strap allows for optimal distribution of pressure on the shoulders, back, and chest, and it can be quickly adjusted while wearing the backpack. The fact that it is detachable has an additional advantage: when not in use, the strap can be released from its clip and stored in one of the many backpack pockets, preventing it from dangling in front of the body and causing inconvenience.In addition to the shoulder straps, the "Husarenstück" hunting backpack is equipped with a continuously adjustable and also detachable hip belt. This belt shifts a significant portion of the backpack's weight onto the hips, enabling fatigue-free carrying over long distances—an established principle in hiking and trekking backpacks. The hip belt is padded with nubuck leather and felt, ensuring even distribution around the hip bones. It is adjustable in length on both sides (up to approximately 130cm) and secured with a high-quality quick-release buckle. The exposed part of the belt webbing above the padding can optionally be equipped with various elements from our Modulus waist bag range. When the hip belt is not needed temporarily, it can be easily detached and reattached within minutes when needed. A sturdy leather handle at the top of the shoulder straps allows for easy hand-carrying of the backpack. Considerations compared to our other hunting backpacks While the "Husarenstück" hunting backpack has many commendable features, we believe in providing an honest and full assessment. In comparison to our other models such as the "Capreolus" or the "Cervus," there are a couple of things to consider when choosing the right backpack model. The waxed cotton material and the buckle on the hip belt are not as silent as the noiseless connections found on our other hunting backpacks. However, with a little extra care and by sliding the plastic buckles under the initial leather straps of the belt at the start of a hunting session to prevent them from rattling on the stand floor, there won't be much room for error. But for those seeking a solution that minimizes any potential noise, it might be worth taking another look at the "Cervus" hunting backpack.

Our new 3-season hunting trousers, the "Rauhbein," are made from a strong 216g/m2 polycotton fabric, which becomes a sturdy and durable trouser fabric through a strong (and PFC-free) wax impregnation, allowing the wearer to tackle spring, summer, autumn, and even warmer winter days. The cut of the trousers is inspired by summer trousers and also features the typical patch front pockets, double-layered and ergonomically shaped knee area for better freedom of movement, as well as an internal knife pocket on the back right leg. The rough fabric not only makes it stable and resistant but also gives the hunting trousers a unique "rough and tough" charm – hence the name.Waxed fabrics naturally don't match the silence of loden. The "Rauhbein" is not silent due to its wax impregnation. However, the wax softens with body heat when worn. If you are particularly sensitive to noise, you should take this into consideration. Polycotton: Why we love it In addition to our pure natural products such as loden, felt, leather, and cotton, we discovered polycotton for ourselves several years ago. Not only because it is considered one of the finer fabrics among modern synthetic and blended fabrics, but also because its properties are perfect where the natural fibers we use have their limitations. Poly-cotton is a blend of polyester and cotton, combining the best properties of both worlds. With the cotton content, which is usually spun around a polyester core in the outer area of the yarn, the outdoor fabric has a pleasant feel that is hard to distinguish from pure cotton. In relation to material thickness and weight, the fabric is very stable and durable due to this blended fiber and has good UV resistance. It absorbs less water when wet than, for example, pure untreated cotton and also dries significantly faster. In hot temperatures, the material has a cooling effect. After a machine wash at a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius (otherwise, the wax coating will be lost), the trousers may initially appear slightly stained. This is because the wax layer was subjected to varying degrees of stress in the machine. No need to worry: Just iron over it with a steam iron, and everything will be evenly distributed again. If you're not the type who irons their (hunting) trousers, you can simply leave it as it is. The body heat will even it out again. What matters to us: Material sustainability The synthetic fiber component used for the polycotton in this product is made from recycled polyester. The wax impregnation is free from environmentally harmful PFCs and can be easily renewed at home when the impregnation eventually wears off. However, one of the most important arguments for sustainability is different: The "Rauhbein" is not a pair of trousers to be worn a few times; it quickly becomes the favorite trousers that are worn so often that they are "worn out" rather than ending up in the discard pile. And nothing is more sustainable than using things for as long as they last!Oh yes, before we forget: The "Rauhbein" is "Made in EU." What to expect from waxed fabrics There is a lot of half-knowledge and some misunderstandings about waxed fabrics, also referred to as waxed cotton, wax cotton, or waxed polycotton. This is to ensure a perfectly fitting pair of trousers because there's nothing more annoying than trousers that are too short or too long. Additionally, the trousers have a center seam with a wide seam allowance, allowing for easy adjustment of the waist circumference. This way, the fit can be perfectly tailored to individual needs at a trusted alteration studio for a small fee. To ensure a good fit: Proper size determination Waist sizeTake a measuring tape and measure your waist circumference first. Measure on the line where you wear your belt. The measuring tape should be loose and without tension. You can wear a shirt underneath as it will later be tucked into the trousers. If you don't have a measuring tape handy, a string that you can mark and then measure with a ruler will do.
