One cut, two jackets: REGENSEGEN and WINDFANG
At STEINKAUZ, there are two jackets based on the same cut: while REGENSEGEN represents the "heavy-duty" version, WINDFANG is the lighter all-rounder. During the development of our new jacket model, we realized that there are two camps when it comes to the choice of material, and both had their arguments that we could follow in both cases. The proponents of the heritage camp favored the heavy and heavily waxed waxed cotton made of 100% cotton in the British manner (by the way, ours also comes from there). The representatives of the more modern direction had their preference for another outdoor fabric that has long been considered a classic - poly-cotton or polycotton, the widely used outdoor fabric, in our case made from recycled polyester and organic cotton. The classic waxed cotton, being a pure cotton fabric, can absorb much more wax than a blended fabric, making it very waterproof but also quite heavy. Polycotton, on the other hand, is not only lighter but also somewhat cheaper to produce (and in terms of wax consumption).
So what to do? Which of the two alternatives should we choose? Usually, at this point, especially as a smaller manufacturer, one has to make a decision. And that's exactly what we did, but in a rather unusual way: we decided to simply make both jackets! Both fabrics have their charm and their admirers, and we believe that our customers should decide which model they prefer. So now we have the REGENSEGEN outdoor jacket made of 100% waxed cotton and the WINDFANG outdoor jacket made of polycotton.
The surface of waxed cotton quickly develops a beautiful vintage effect with use. If the waxing diminishes over time, the jacket can be rewaxed as often as desired.
What to wear underneath?
When choosing the appropriate size, consider whether you will wear the jacket in summer with lightweight clothing underneath or in winter with a thick loden fleece jacket or sweater. This consideration is especially important if you are between two sizes!
Regarding individual measurements
Some relevant measurements are given twice (e.g., 116/106). The first value refers to the circumference of the garment, and the second value refers to your body measurement. You can either take measurements on yourself or measure your favorite jacket for comparison. The difference between body measurement and garment measurement is usually 8-10 cm.
Chest:
The chest measurement describes the chest circumference of the jacket and the chest circumference measured on your body. The chest circumference is the most important measurement. If the chest is too tight, usually the rest of the jacket won't fit well either.
Waist:
The waist measurement describes the waist circumference of the jacket and the waist circumference measured on your body. If your waist is narrower, it usually has less impact than the chest circumference.
Sleeve Length:
Since this is a raglan sleeve without a traditional shoulder seam, please measure the sleeve length including the shoulder. To do this, place the measuring tape at the point where the collar would sit, at the intersection between the neck and shoulder, and measure up to the point where the sleeve cuff hem should be.
Back Length::
The back length is measured from the seam of the bottom edge of the collar to the lower edge of the waist hem on the body.

Lightweight touring companion: Outdoor jacket "Windfang" made of waxed polycotton
The STEINKAUZ outdoor jacket "Windfang" is the stylistic and material complement to our loden jackets, hoodies, and equipment. Where the wet weather properties of loden reach their limits, waxed cotton forms the necessary outer layer to keep rain out and a comfortable climate inside. When worn with lightweight clothing, the material has a cooling effect. However, when combined with a layer of loden or a warm wool sweater as a base layer, it effectively retains heat inside. The surface of waxed cotton quickly develops a beautiful vintage effect with use. If the waxing diminishes over time, the jacket can be rewaxed as often as desired.
What to expect from waxed fabrics
There is a lot of half-knowledge and some misconceptions about waxed fabrics, also known as waxed cotton, waxcotton, or waxed polycotton. We explain what these fabrics can do in more detail in our STEINKAUZ-blog.Small details that you will appreciate
The interior of the "Windfang" is lined with a thin pocket lining made of polycotton to ensure that the waxed outer fabric does not have direct contact with the rest of your clothing. The hood can be adjusted to fit the shape of the head using the internal drawstring and can be worn loose or snug. Four exterior pockets, two on the chest and two with side entry at the waist, are all equipped with zippers and an additional overflap made of waxed cotton to make it more difficult for raindrops to penetrate. Inside, there are two additional interior pockets on both sides in the chest area, each with a zipper and side entry. The main zipper is made of burnished metal and has two flaps, one below and one above the zipper, to resist wind and rain. Wind cuffs are built into the sleeve cuffs and waist of the jacket. These are fabric cuffs that can be tightened with a drawstring to prevent cold wind from entering and provide additional protection at sensitive areas. In addition, the sleeve cuffs can also be tightened with an external Velcro strap.Made from sustainable materials
The synthetic fiber component for the polycotton used in this product is produced from recycled polyester, while the natural fiber component is made of organic cotton. The wax impregnation is free from environmentally harmful PFCs and can be easily renewed at home whenever the impregnation eventually wears off. However, one of the most important arguments for sustainability is a different one altogether: Our products are not meant to be worn a few times and then discarded, but rather to be cherished as a new favorite item that will be worn for a long time until it has served its purpose. And nothing is more sustainable than using your belongings for a long time!Size chart
