One design, two jackets: REGENSEGEN and WINDFANG

STEINKAUZ offers two jackets based on the same design: While REGENSEGEN represents the "heavy-duty" version, WINDFANG is the lighter all-rounder. During the development of our new jacket model, we found that there are two camps regarding the choice of materials, and we could see the merits of both. The advocates of the heritage camp preferred the heavy and heavily waxed 100% cotton Waxed Cotton in the British style (ours also comes from there, by the way). The representatives of the more modern direction had a preference for another outdoor fabric that has long been considered a classic - poly-cotton or polycotton, the widely used outdoor fabric, in our case made from recycled polyester and organic cotton. The classic waxed cotton, being a pure cotton fabric, can absorb much more wax than a blend. This makes it very resistant to rain but also quite heavy. Polycotton, on the other hand, is not only lighter but also more cost-effective in production (and in wax consumption).

So, what to do? Which of the two alternatives should we choose? Normally, at this point, especially as a smaller manufacturer, one has to make a decision. That's exactly what we did, but in an unusual way: We decided to simply make both jackets! Both fabrics have their charm and their admirers, and we believe that our customers should decide which model is closer to their preferences. So now we have the REGENSEGEN outdoor jacket made of 100% waxed cotton and the WINDFANG outdoor jacket made of polycotton.

Lightweight companion: "Windfang" outdoor jacket made of waxed polycotton

The STEINKAUZ "Windfang" outdoor jacket is the stylistic and material complement to our loden jackets, hoodies, and equipment. Where the weatherproof properties of loden reach their limits, waxed cotton provides the necessary outer layer to keep rain out and maintain a comfortable climate inside. When worn with light clothing, the material has a cooling effect. With a layer of loden or a warm wool sweater as a base layer, it effectively retains heat.
The surface of the waxed cotton changes quickly with use and develops a beautiful vintage effect. If the waxing diminishes over time, the jacket can be re-waxed as often as desired.

What to expect from waxed fabrics

There is a lot of half-knowledge and some misconceptions about waxed fabrics, also known as waxed cotton, waxcotton, or waxed polycotton. We explain what these fabrics can do in more detail on our STEINKAUZ-blog.

The little details that you will appreciate

The interior of the "Windfang" jacket is lined with a thin pocket lining made of polycotton to ensure that the waxed outer fabric does not come into direct contact with other clothing. The hood can be adjusted to fit the shape of the head using the internal drawstring and can be worn loosely or snugly. Four outer pockets, two on the chest and two with side access at the hip, are all equipped with zippers and additionally feature a waxed cotton flap to make it more difficult for raindrops to penetrate. Inside, on both sides in the chest area, there are additional inner pockets with zippers and side access. The main zipper is made of burnished metal and has two flaps, one below and one above the zipper, to slow down wind and rain. Wind cuffs are incorporated into the sleeve cuffs and waist of the jacket. These are fabric cuffs that can be tightened with a drawstring to prevent cold wind from entering and provide additional protection at sensitive areas. In addition, the sleeve cuffs can also be tightened further with an external Velcro strap.

Made from sustainable materials

The synthetic fiber component for the polycotton used in this product is produced from recycled polyester, and the natural fiber component is made from organic cotton. The wax impregnation is free from environmentally harmful PFCs and can be easily reapplied at home when the impregnation eventually wears off. However, one of the most important arguments for sustainability is something else entirely: Our products are not purchased to be worn a few times but rather because people invest in a new favorite piece that they will wear until it has served its purpose. And there is nothing more sustainable than using one's belongings for a long time!

Explanation of the size chart

The measurements represent the average of a size. This means there is some leeway in both directions before you reach the range of the next size.

What to wear underneath?
When choosing the appropriate size, consider whether you will be wearing the jacket in summer with lightweight clothing underneath or in winter with a thick loden fleece jacket or sweater. This consideration is particularly important if you are between two sizes!

Regarding specific measurements
Some relevant measurements are given twice (e.g., 116/106). The first value refers to the circumference of the garment, while the second value refers to your body measurement. Therefore, you can either take your own measurements or compare them with your favorite jacket. The difference between body measurement and garment measurement is usually around 8-10 cm.

Chest:
The chest measurement describes the chest circumference of the jacket as well as the measured chest circumference of your body. The chest circumference is the most important measurement. If the chest is too tight, usually the rest won't fit well either.

Waist:
The waist measurement describes the waist circumference of the jacket as well as the measured waist circumference of your body. If your waist is narrower, it usually matters less than the chest circumference.

Armlength:
Since this is a raglan sleeve that does not have a classic shoulder seam, please measure the sleeve length including the shoulder. Place the measuring tape at the intersection between the neck and shoulder (where the collar would sit) and measure to the point where the sleeve cuff should be.

Back Length:
The back length is measured from the seam at the bottom of the collar to the lower edge of the waist hem on the body.
