Everyone knows this situation: driven hunt, it's time to take positions! The briefing is done, the equipment is ready, and finally, the stand is taken. The seat stool digs into the forest floor until it finally finds stability, providing a comfortable and somewhat stable seat for the next few hours. Silence sets in. And then... a sound! Another one! The initial excitement about the soon-to-be-visible sight turns into a disappointing mistake. The increasingly frequent sounds are not coming from the thicket in front of me but from above the treetops: It's raining. Lucky is the one who is well-prepared now...
At a hunting fair, a customer came up with the suggestion of building a simple protection that keeps the legs warm and shields from rain while sitting, especially during driven hunts. He had something like that made from an old rain jacket. I told him that I would consider how my version of such a rain protection could look. The result is our "Trockenhocken" hunting apron..
The apron is made of waxed cotton on the top, serving as a rain cover, and a layer of warm Deckenloden on the underside, keeping the thighs and knees warm. The hunting apron is attached around the waist with an adjustable hook and loop, and it can be easily tightened to the desired tension. It can be worn over a jacket or other clothing. When sitting, for example, on a tripod or on a driven hunt stand, it rests on the thighs without causing discomfort or falling off when one needs to quickly rise due to game approaching.
An all-around practical solution for rainy driven hunt days! But it's also suitable for sitting outdoors, such as on an open ladder or behind a screen during the rutting season.
