Not just good for the ears: Hunting with a silencer
Whether one likes it or not, the silencer comes with a range of practical advantages. It reduces the sound of the shot, thus protecting the hunter's eardrums and the nerves of residents near the forest who are not hunting. It also reduces recoil and the tendency to flinch. Shooters become more confident, and shots become more accurate. In twilight and at night, muzzle flash decreases, resulting in less glare. Game can be better assessed in the shot, allowing for inferences about post-shot behavior such as tracking, escape direction, etc. With hearing not overwhelmed by the sound, it is even easier to acoustically track the reaction of the targeted animal. And last but not least, the reduced disturbance radius in the hunting area due to quieter shots has a positive effect, especially on red deer.
Protection and functionality in all directions: The silencer cover "Knallkopp"
Those who have a "silencer" on their weapon also know that there are a few things to consider. Some weapons retrofitted with a silencer become longer and therefore slightly less manageable, and even short hunting rifles are somewhat bulkier and can occasionally bump into things. Those who hunt with night vision may experience the effects of stray light from the IR illuminator hitting the back of the suppressor and reflecting. Or the so-called mirage effect when rising heat after the shot disrupts the image in the scope or, even more significantly, in the thermal imaging attachment.
All these factors played important roles in the development of our silencer cover, as it should comprehensively eliminate the minor disruptions faced by those who hunt with a suppressor.
Protection against impacts and scratches
The "Knallkopp" cover is made of pure 3 mm thick wool felt. It provides optimal cushioning against impacts, scratches, and bumping, which is particularly beneficial when maneuvering in tight hunting blinds and open stands.
Thermal insulation against heat distortion
The wool felt used has excellent insulation properties that still reduce heat emission upwards and thus potential visual disturbances (mirage effect) even after two or three shots. The felt is not very sensitive to heat and can withstand several consecutive shots. Of course, common sense dictates limits depending on the caliber. We do not recommend firing more than 6-7 shots in a row directly without a break. But let's be honest, how often does that happen outside the shooting range?
No slipping due to recoil
The opening on the barrel side of the silencer narrows, preventing the cover from slipping due to recoil when firing.
Flexible and adaptable for almost all silencers
Our protective cover consists of a flexible felt surface that wraps around the silencer and is securely held in place by the retaining rubber bands. It easily covers diameters of approximately 40 to 52 mm.
A longitudinally attached leather edge prevents the material from unfolding between the retaining rubber bands. The upper end does not have a leather
Can be left on the silencer while airing out
After hunting, it is recommended to remove the silencer for airing out, allowing it to dry quickly and prevent corrosion from residual moisture (condensation) and powder residue inside. During this drying process, the felt cover can be left on the silencer. Only if the felt itself gets soaked with moisture should it be removed and dried separately.
How do I find the right size for my silencer?
It's simple: Measure it! The diameter of the silencer should not exceed 50 mm. Above that, it can still be used, but it may not fit around the body as nicely. The designation of each model indicates the maximum length of the silencer in millimeters. The cover can be shortened by up to 4 cm with scissors. This results in the following ranges:Model | Silencer Length | optimal diameter |
S-160 | 12-16 cm | 40-52 mm |
M-200 | 16-20 cm | 40-52 mm |
L-240 | 20-24 cm | 40-52 mm |
