Who is the OPTIKAUZ for?
Modern hunting optics go beyond just a rifle scope. Thermal imaging cameras have become standard in nearly every hunting ground. Night hunting now involves infrared clip-on devices, add-on optics, and thermal imaging attachments. Many hunters carry both IR and thermal optics to adapt to different conditions— for example, in foggy conditions, a thermal device offers clear advantages. The OPTIKAUZ backpack is designed to accommodate multiple technical devices, while still providing ample space for other hunting essentials.
The Design & Structure
The OPTIKAUZ rucksack is a compact, medium-sized hunting rucksack with one main compartment and many outer pockets - a principle that has proved its worth for us for years in our other hunting rucksacks. Its main compartment holds around 20 litres and only has an additional flat, zipped inner compartment for a hunting licence, perhaps a safety waistcoat or other flat items. Otherwise, it is used for stowing warm clothes or a light hunting bag like our Petz. First of all, I keep my lens pot in this compartment so that I can take it out and put it on when I'm out in the field, because I haven't gone out without it for a long time. The main compartment is closed with a lashing strap. The built-in front zip allows it to be opened almost halfway lengthways for easier handling. The double loden lid not only serves as weather protection, but also allows a jacket or blanket to be transported over the main compartment. It is fixed and lashed down with an easy-to-lock steel G-hook.
Extremely versatile and customisable pocket system
The Optikauz is designed in such a way that a wide variety of equipment can be easily distributed in various places. Both the two lower side pockets as well as the attached front pocket have a high enough format to accommodate attachments, observation WBKs, a spotting scope or a water bottle. You can even store binoculars in the spacious front pocket or create a double pocket for two elongated devices (e.g. observation WBK and silencer) by dividing it using the optional felt inserts.
There is a high and a low outer pocket on both sides, each of which can be locked very quietly even in the dark using an ingenious one-hand loop fastener developed by us. The upper pockets hold ammunition, a satchel case with spare batteries or a power bank. The lower pockets can be used to hold night vision devices, an attachment, an insulated bottle, a spotting scope or simply a knife and a retrieval strap.
The front pocket is so generously dimensioned that even 8x56 binoculars can be transported in it if they are no longer in use at night. Alternatively, the compartment can be converted into a double case for two long optics using two optional felt inserts. The additional, small mesh compartments on the inside offer additional space for a few small items.
